  • Concert tour difficulties

    BMB

I have sought an "education" from a few friends with different backgrounds in the music business. I think I have some understanding of the level of difficulty in putting together a tour these days. It boils down to "cash flow" or the timing of cash that needs to be paid up-front vs. revenues that get collected later on (ticket revenues, etc). I am guessing that a 30-day tour has expenses in the 6 digits (US dollars)-high or low, I don't know. But up-front, expenses need to be paid for band members, booking agents, venues, travel, etc. Eventually the hope is those expenses will be more than offset by tour revenues-but-someone has to come up with that 6-figure piggybank up front. Historically, music promoters would do that...the problem is that that may no longer be the case. That leaves...the artist to come up with that, and that's a significant issue. This appears to be compounded by the notion of promoters requiring a new "project" in order to even considering providing seed money for a tour, and new projects, in the minds of some in the business, are not viable due to file-sharing, youtube, etc...opinions do vary on that, but at the end of the day, it comes down to the reality of the promoter or the artist, not the fans :-(

Lance, I will take your request to heart, and in honor of your son, I will refrain from ever again texting and driving from this moment on. I will encourage others to follow suit. My brother lives in Detroit and I long to visit him soon. If Jean-Luc graces that area with a concert in the future, who knows? Maybe you and I can meet at the show! I've witnessed Jean-Luc's magic 7 times, the last time over 25 years ago! A bit over due don't you think?

My heart goes out to you Lance. I am so sorry, and I cannot imagine your pain to lose your son. My son is now 20 years old and I am blessed to have him share this earth with me. Jean-Luc was already my favorite artist, has been since 1974 and the main reason I play violin professionally. But to hear of his generous support of your son's foundation puts him up there with one of my favorite people. What can we do to get him to tour America???

Hey My friend, it's been almost 4yrs since my sons death, an I was looking at the cancelled check you sent to his foundation today an it brought tears to my eyes, so today i popped in JLP live at chene park, i thank GOD i was able to share your artistry live with him on that great day, i miss him so much, but to know your heart guided you to support my family an I during our time of grief was just awesome, and people wonder why you're my favorite artist and have been since 1982, never missed a show here in Detroit since then. anyway watching birds still brings tears to my eyes, but they are tears of joy, i hear it and have beautiful memories of my son, for that i thank you. now bring your self back here or im gonna get you...LOL (2009) been to long, thanks again Jean Luc and bless you with love and peace..... • North American Tour?

Ok, The demand is there for a tour of North America. I suggest you start rehearsals, create enough material for a record, create a record. Add Holdsworth to the lineup ( I notice you have not been using a Guitar in the line up) Then I suggest you create a tour, jack up the prices to fund it. $200 ? This in turn will connect with a new audience and you will be on the road to satisfy all of us followers/worshipers. So 2015 would be suitable for me. You in? George Duke would want this for you and us......

  • Saw you live

    Valarie

In 1977 or '78 at a UWOshkosh here in Wisconsin. What memories! I've been a singer all my life in bands for many years. I found myself in a band in the '70's with a violinist that was as enthralled with you as I was and I convinced him to do New Country. We did and even though a lot of the audiences we played for didn't know it they LOVED it! And, you would have been proud of him. He performed it well and I danced my feet off! Again, what memories.... THANK YOU
