Concert that change my life.
Montevideo Montevideo UruguayHi JL. My name is Andrés and im a guitar player. i went to a concert in the 08 tour in uruguay. I have to say that in my 23 years y haven't seen anything as incredible as you band, it had me literally jumping in my sit. Since then i have devoted great part of my life to studying jazz and listening to your records. I hope one day to create a great band with at least a bit of your great taste in their music. Thank you for showing me a new musical way!!Jul 24, 2010 3:05pm
San Clemente CA USBoy time flys. Have been listening to Jean-Luc for many decades now I guess. Since he's almost 68 I guess he's not touring much anymore. Would love to see him again if possible. Bill in CaliJul 21, 2010 9:22am
Saratoga CA USAJust had to comment on how clever the 7/8 violin solo secion is on Life Cycles from A Taste for Passion (still sitting in my cd player...) The section is in 7/8 but has a 7/4 feel. The bass line grooves with a nice 7/8 arppegiation but the remaining instruments overlay a 7/4 rhythmic grouping (thus 2 bass riffs per effective measure). Not only is it clever writing but it has a massive "groove factor" which is quite tricky to produce. Too damn cool..... Cheers! ChrisJul 19, 2010 10:37am
Saratoga CA USAHi Mr. Ponty, I have a feeling that no one who listens to your music would take offense should you keep the priority of practice and composition over answering emails! As always, we look forward to the opportunity to hear new compositions and to the chance of seeing you live in concert... With gratitude, ChrisJul 19, 2010 10:34am
Jean-LucI would like to apologize to those of you who sent me emails through the contact page recently to which I did not reply. It gets so crazy some days that I can't keep up with everything I have to do, and my priority is to practice and write music, which I couldn't do some days if I staid at the computer. I hope you understand.Jul 12, 2010 12:32pm
recording with Masahiko Sato
Jean-LucThat album with Japanese pianist Masahiko Sato was produced in 1970, when I toured in Japan with a European All Stars group, we performed at the Osaka World Expo and also in Tokyo and our German producer arranged for this recording encounter with a few top Japanese jazz musicians while we were there. I don't really remember the music, not sure if I still have a copy somewhere, but think it was kind of avant-guard jazz.Jul 12, 2010 12:23pm
Addition to discography?
Tariffville CT USAhttp://cgi.ebay.com/VERY-RARE-Masahiko-Sato-PONTY-SATO-Astrorama-/370406583177?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item563df3eb89 I found a few videos of Masahiko Sato on youtube-cool, straight-ahead, almost avant-guarde jazz. Was this collaboration one of jazz, or fusion?Jul 10, 2010 6:42pm
