  • Project with Jon Anderson?

    Paul G

Anderson has said in interviews (and a Facebook post today) that he will be "starting a Band this summer with Jean Luc Ponty, Jordan Rudess, Michael Lewis, Rayford Griffin, and Baron Brown." Can you confirm or deny this? If true, this would be a show I would happily travel hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to see!

  • Sound tracks on the JLP website

    BMB

I just wanted to express my thanks for the 3 soundtracks available on this website. Where I work, I am the first to arrive (and make the coffee). One day this week I was able to turn up the sound on my laptop and have the sounds of JLP reverberating beyond my cubicle. What a GREAT way to start the day.

In watching the promo video for Clara's vocal album of a few years ago, there is a brief live clip of you putting down a track. Could you elaborate on what you specifically use between the violin and the studio/ live boards in terms of preamp, DI, EQ preferences etc? You're playing very 'clean' these days in terms of effects (compared to the 70's/80's 'old days'!) but the Barcus-Berry pickups, and most piezos, can be ugly beasts if not tamed properly ( I have the Barbera bridge on mine). Of course, nothing sounded grittier than the old DeArmond clip-on, remember those? :-) Lastly, is that the original 70's BB bridge on the blue violin?

What a great album, and the song "New Country". A fantastic written piece of music that was well orchestrated. - Chris Michael Urbanski, Hickory Lane Publishing & recording, B.C Canada

Laid up Atacama (although of course my copy says Acatama ;-) ) today and re-loved the treatment of the first track. Who would have thought to do Bud Powell with a hiphop groove? JLP, that's who! Since I'm sitting in with a zydeco group for Mardi Gras that plays in F literally all night, I'll mine this for a few new riffs to try and squeeze in. Enjoyed the video with the concert with Clara... had to laugh at myself as, never having heard her speak before, was surprised she didn't have a French accent! Of course, dummy... she's from California, not Avranches! Thanks for posting that, a pleasure to see and hear as always. Wishing you a restful and productive, and always healthy 2014.

  • The quiet side

    BMB

Yesterday I was doing volunteer work at a transportation museum: sanding and priming the roof of a railroad car. After nearly 11 hours of this, I was exhausted and ready to head home. Turn on the radio-Garrison Keillor/Prairie Home Companion was too boisterous and silly..but wait-turn on the CD player, and JLP's Storytelling CD is ready to go. This time I was ready for some quieter selections, and the Chopin Prelude #20, Spring Episode, and Pastoral Harmony were exactly what was needed. Thank you, Jean-Luc, for providing music that fits every situation and emotion. By the way, in case you haven't heard it enough already...we REALLY miss you here in the US (hint hint)! ;-)

Mr Ponty, Certainly, we have been been blessed by your contributuons but I feel especially blessed. After discovering your music , it has eased my spirit through The Persian Gulf War, being widowed (and re married :-) ), sobriety and daily work as a paramedic in Detroit. I now have began to educate my daughter in your music and she is ready for a jazz concert. We would really enjoy seeing you back here. Thank you again. Hope this message finds you well and at peace. God Bless!
