  • No JLP concert in Paris in Juy

    Michael/JLP Productions

Hi Geraldine, JLP is not performing anywhere in France this month, not even at some event that would not be listed in the Concerts page. Sorry. Have a good trip anyway!

  • Remasters?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do think any of your back catalogue will be remastered or do you think there is a need to do so? I would especially like to see an Enigmatic Ocean re-release. Anyway, thanks for all the great music over the years. I used to always go see you when I lived in Denver Colorado. Remember The Rainbow Theater? Those were some great shows.

  • Duet with Chick Corea

    Jean Luc

I was surprised when Chick called me. I don't always check concert listings when I am in Paris and did not know that he was doing a solo piano performance at a festival nearby. I was in town at the right time and he invited me to jam with him. I never played with Chick before as a duet, so I felt it was a bit risky to do it without preparation right in front of an audience, but it turned out to be great, I really enjoyed it. It was also good practice for our show in Los Angeles in September. There is no plan to record at the Hollywood Bowl but count on fans to send some excerpts on youtube......!

  • Chick Corea and Jean Luc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fag9qdlESso What a fun, delightful, and creative collaboration. The notes on youtube indicate that this recent concert featured this duo playing "Stella By Starlight", "Blue Monk", Armando's Rhumba", and "Spain". I'd love to hear/see "Spain" by Chick and Jean Luc. Any chance it will be released as a commercial video...or at least posted here? Or maybe combined with the upcoming Hollywood Bowl appearance....

  • other drummers

You're right John D, I didn't mention drummers who replaced Rayford Griffin occasionally such as Sonny Emory indeed, Tom Brechtlein (Chick Corea, Journey etc.) and Michael Barsimento talented drummer originally from San Francisco.

    Cosmic Messenger

That may have been 1985, a show in Brazil w/Scott Henderson. I'll have to pull that out.... Yes, a top rate guitarist indeed. We'll be seeing one of my faves of all time this week, the Robin Trower. Been following his music closely for 33 yrs. Like all great professionals, he keeps getting better and venturing to new creations. Always very soulful. BTW, youtube ralphe Armstrong, you'll get some goodies.

  • Another drummer; and Lenny White

    John D

    Huntersville NC USA

I think there's another drummer from the 1980s that didn't get mentioned: Sonny Emory, who, after touring with Jean Luc, went on to tour with Earth Wind and Fire. I've seen a bootleg video of JLP's band in the 1980s with Sonny, John Humphrey (bass), Walt Afanasieff (sp?) (keyboards), and Scott Henderson (guitar) performing Jean Luc's "The Art of Happiness", and boy does it rock. Scott just tears it up with his solo, and Sonny is a monster drummer. Lenny White-hey JJ, two of Lenny's CDs that you might find of interest are "Astral Pirates" and "Venusian Summer".

I am underway onboard USS Ronald Reagan. I am excited to report I am sharing Jean-Luc's music with a friend who hasn't heard of him before but likes the music I have played for him tonight. That is a historic first ladies and gentlemen. Most military guys I work with don't like this kind of music. He seems to like layers of keyboard sound having mentioned the YES keyboardist. I think I like layers of keyboard sound too. Well hope you guys are cool out there. Hope Jean-Luc does make it a full tour of the U.S. besides the Hollywood bowl gig.

Lenny White was one of the drummers for RTF, as Bill Connors was one of the guitarists for RTF. Saw a show on BET perhaps from latter nineties with Lenny leading his own band. And on Bass was the Ralphe Armstrong of JLP fame (and Mahavishnu). In my view, Imaginary Voyage and Enigmatic Ocean certainly shook up the music world. Glad JLP didn't join RTF.... Also, Cosmic messenger and Aurora were all just cutting edge and brilliant, among the other work following. Very progressive, very much needed. Getting nostalgic for a moment, my favorite JLP concert was at the Burbank (CA) Starlight Amphitheatre perhaps 1978 (CM tour). Charming venue on a hill (if my memory serves) and darling shirts for sale. I should have bought more than one!! they were not cut like regular T-shirts (boring) but more European. Cannot find this style at concerts.
