Hi Jean Luc Have you ever considered playing with Andreas Vollenweider? I feel that you and Andreas are in a similar category; both of you are innovators of your instrument, and both of you (in ways) play in the genre of jazz fusion. Can you tell me if you have ever considered this, and, if you have, why you did not do a small tour or even one show with him? I apologize if this question is too personal. Can't wait to see you at Yoshi's. G

Hi Michael, No, definitely not bootlegs. I was only refering to the credits on the inside liner notes for Egocentric Molecules. Great drums on all the tunes. After all these years, I happen to observe this a couple days ago. Not a big deal (to me). I look forward to the gig at Yoshi's.

Rajamani-thanks so much for the background information on this video! I thought some of the musicians looked familiar. Michael-can you ask Jean Luc if the upcoming tour will include "Far From The Beaten Paths" in the repertoire? That's another of Jean Luc's older compositions that should still sound great, especially with a 4-piece band (just like on the original recording). Merci!

By the way the U.S. tour in November is now listed in the Concerts page, a few more might be added.

  • Casey Scheuerell

    Michael/JLP Productions

Hi 'Cosmic Messenger' I just checked our copies of JEAN LUC PONTY -LIVE (1978) and drummer Casey Scheuerell as well as all the other musicians are listed in the credits on both the original LP and the CD re-release by Wounded Birds Records. Perhaps you got bootlegs....? John D: no JLP will not perform 'Far From The Beaten Paths' he says that there are so many songs to choose from that it's hard to please everyone.

Thanks to John D for posting the link to the JLP/Sanborn clip. Sanborn used to host a show called Nite Music in the late 80's in which many musicians would come & jam. If my memory & accuracy is correct the drummer is Omar Hakim & the guitarist is the (late) great Hiram Bullock.

It would be great if Jean Luc posted some of his live performances here on his web-site. Especially his most recent gigs...2009 etc.

    Fake Paradise

Thanx John D for alerting us to that video. It was rockin'! Then while we are there on that youtube page, we can then visit The Art of Happiness with Scott Henderson and then The Struggle of the Turtle both parts, etc etc. I had some JLP in my cd player as I was traveling way up north in Calif for holiday(definitely not fake paradise....) I noted the maestro writes incredible drum parts. By the way, on a trivial note perhaps, I noticed recently that Casey S. was not listed in the credits on Egocentric Molecules on the 1978 Live album, both cd and the vinyl. No drum credit was given. Thanks Chris for the early news re JLP at Yoshi's in Nov. However, their calendar doesn't yet reflect the show(s). I imagine it will be a 3 or more night gig. I was browsing through both Yoshi's web sites for the the next two months. They are bringing in some several major players. It was a little slow in that way during the summer and perhaps spring. I note the great violinist Regina Carter is coming too. Also, brother Gil Scott Heron appears to be booked elsewhere in SF on Oct 2. Gotta support jazz. I feel the fairly recent WSJ article wasn't terribly accurate about jazz and jazz fans.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8bOILDU08k Another live performance that needs to be authorized for Jean Luc to distribute as he sees fit! The composition is "Tender Memories". Not sure who the rest of the band members are...the bass player and drummer remind me of Sting's band in the video "If You Love Someone Set Them Free", but it's probably someone else.

Pierre
