I know Jean Luc is THE master of jazz/fusion violin music. Would he ever consider recording a tradional jazz/swing cd? I guess the Rite of Stings group was close but they didn't have a drummer. I'm going to the RTF concert at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Can't wait.

I'm using JL's forum to tell all JLP fans not to miss the RTF tour if it comes near you. These guys are all playing really well, and it's fun to see JL in 'someone else's' band for the first time in decades. He looks and sounds like he's really enjoying himself, and the whole show is a joy to watch. Look for them to play a Ponty classic at some point in the night too! Two sets and it seemed they had more to give. Don't miss this tour if you can. (Chris -very long-time Ponty acolyte)

I will never forget the first time I heard you play in Pittsburgh in the late 1970's. What you bring to the strings is a new vibration for us to soak into our souls. I plan to hear Return To Forever when they tour the US in Pittsburgh. It would be a lifetime experience to see and hear you play again with them. I listen to music in a new way since you and RTF have brought such a unique sound to this planet! Namaste'

  • Allan Zavod...and others

    BMB

Jean-Luc, Many thanks for the info on Allan. When I think about the musicians in your band over the years, it's hard to say what's more amazing-the diversity of where they come from (Australia, Senegal, France, etc), or the level of talent they have which leads them on to an amazing variety of diverse gigs (Steve Smith and Journey; Darryl Stuermer and Genesis; Walt Afanasieff and his producing successes, etc). Enjoy the RTF4 tour!

Hello Jean-Luc! I was wondering if there was any publicized transcriptions of Open Mind? I'm specifically struggling with "Watching Birds" and would love to buy a copy of the music, as I only seem to confuse myself further each time I try to transcribe it myself. Love your music, thanks!

  • Allan Zavod

    Jean Luc

BMB: Allan Zavod........by referral, he flew to Los Angeles for an audition and was hired immediately. He was then (still is) an excellent jazz pianist and also very knowledgeable about synthesizer technology (Arp 2600), which was a rare combination in the mid-70s.

Greetings Jean-Luc, I was wondering how Allan Zavod came to be in your band. Just before he started playing for you, I believe he was in Maynard Ferguson's band. Had you seen Maynard (and Allan) in concert? Or was this another situation of "referral and audition"? Best wishes to you and yours, BMB
