  • additional concert dates

    Michael/JLP Productions

If any concert dates are added to the actual list in November, it would be in the Mid-West or East Coast, 1 or 2 maximum and we should know by the end of the month. Thanksgiving vacation starts soon after the New York concert, so there couldn't be many dates added at the end.

Hey Karl-great to see you here again! We're not going to the Austin show, but I did get tickets for the Lexington, KY show. Great venue, great start time, on a weekend-all adds up for a great opportunity to bring my wife and children for another inspiring show...my 9-year-old daughter is even expressing interest in taking violin lessons. Whether or not that comes to pass is another matter altogether...

  • Yoshis' in Oakland

    Michael/JLP Productions

JJ.....Yoshi's is definitely confirmed on Nov. 6-7-8 and the best would be to contact the place directly, I don't know when they start selling tickets as we have nothing to do with that. I'll try to find out on my end and post a local contact.

Yoshis doesn't have anything posted yet about the Oakland shows. I want to buy tickets because my Dad and I are planning on traveling to get to the Saturday show. Any word on that?

  • Another take on "Spain"

    John D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0Ytyg1jL_4 I was surprised to find this on youtube-the previously-mentioned version of "Spain" by Woody Herman's big band-featuring Lyle Mays on keyboards, no less. What a great composition, whether it's played by Jean Luc and Stevie Wonder, or Woody Herman and his big band. Woody's band came to my high school, albeit only a few months after Lyle left the band. And what an interesting gig this was for Lyle Mays-he (and Pat Metheny) are two musicians I'd love to hear perform with Jean Luc. Something spontaneous/improvised, perhaps...

  • Masterclasses and the Hollywood Bowl

    Jean Luc

To be honest I prefer performing than giving masterclasses but I enjoy them for the contact with students and the help I can bring them eventually. The rare ones I gave were initiated by music schools and organized at the same time as a concert performance with my band......not always easy to schedule. The U.S. tour schedule will not allow to do any during the tour, though I was considering visiting a music school perhaps before or after the tour. And the show at the Hollywood Bowl last week with Chick, Stanley, Lenny, Bill and Chaka was a lot of fun. And Stevie Wonder's jamming on the last two pieces was a total surprise....he was impressive, and is also a great person.

  • Link and question

    Francesco C

John D: Thank you for flying above the stage to film that for us hahahaha, or at least finding the link, I couldn't get tickets to this gig, spain is my favorite chick tune too, I love jamming with it, some of the most melodic threads come out improvising in the intro while the band follows each other, and afterwards the solos just bounce right off of each other and get bigger. Jean-luc Ponty: I just discovered you did masterclasses in russia and in ireland while on tour, is this something you enjoy doing, because I know me and many other people would hugely benefit from the experience and enjoy it too. It would be really cool if you could do masterclasses on your US tour.
