Whatever happened to Jean Luc's #1 fan? John D was the most knowledgable fan of Jean Luc's music I've ever met.

Leo, I didn't get your CD yet, I am checking with my European office to see if they received it. Jake: The chinrest and tuning pegs I have on my Blue Barcus-Berry violin are made of acrylic-I got them in the late 70s in Paris, a French surgeon who was using acrylic parts to replace bones in human bodies thought of making a chinrest for his son who studied violin and had an allergy problem with wood chinrests. It looked so cool that a bow maker thought of making tuning pegs to go with it. I believe that some violin makers in the U.S. make some clear chinrests and tuning pegs as well, perhaps not with the same material but it looks very similar, you should find those online. BMB: Each section you are talking about was played throughout, real playing throughout, I wrote them and had Allan Zavod record synth. 1 first, then we rolled back the tape and he recorded synth 2 on another track and we did the same for synth. 3 (simply a re-recording process). I also doubled them with violin. Then when playing that piece live, I used to play the 1st layer, Zavod would start the second layer (middle voice) then I would add the 3rd layer on violin (playing a 5th above the 1st layer in double stops). I hope this answers your question.

Hello Jean-Luc, I just had a quick question about your custom Barcus Berry blue violin that you have been playing recently. Your pegs and chinrest on the violin are some kind of clear material; would you mind telling what the material is, and where it is available to put on a violin? Thanks so much for your time! J

I've been looking at the score for this composition in Volume 2 of the full-musical-score books published by Warner Brothers. When I listen to the recording and and follow the score, I have a question on the keyboard part-it's section B in the book-and in the recording, it's where the synthesizer is playing 16th notes, then going up a major third, then a minor third. In the book, it's written as Synthesizer 1, Synthesizer 2, and Synthesizer 3. For those of us not familiar with how synthesizers work, when Allan Zavod is playing these riffs, how exactly does the "layering" of Synth 1/2/3 occur? Is it via a kind of keyboard "overdubbing", i.e. play Synth 1, hit a repeat key, go on to Synth 2 (while Synth 1 is repeating), hit a repeat key, then go on to Synth 3 (while Synth 1/2 are repeating)? Or is it done via some kind of programming, i.e. just keep playing Synth 1, but hit a switch and it goes up a major third (i.e. now it's playing Synth 1/2), hit the switch again and it goes up a minor third? Many, many thanks for any info anyone can shed on this.

no Mike JLP never played that melody, and Mike there are no U.S. dates planned at this time and it could still happen this year.

Michael, thanks for responding to my interest in a new JLP album. Can't wait to hear who Jean Luc collaborates with on a future project. Is the JLP band playing the US this year?

No new album in sight right now, Bill, perhaps a plan to re-record early material, taking advantage of new technologies, and he is considering a coupjle of possible collaborations as an additional project.
