Merci, Gabriel

  • 2001 Years Ago, Desert Crossing, Last Memories of Her

    Mike D.

Hi Jean Luc, I saw the 2009 youtubes of 2001 Years Ago, Desert Crossing, Last Memories of Her, and all I can say is, Wow! Makes me want to do nothing but practice and play myself. Good influence, example, inspiration, role model. I would rather play and practice than do many other things. I don’t listen to music like I used to either. So I relate to that. I do listen to your music, a lot! I met this neat couple, in their early 60’s, alive and energetic, actively running a quality healthy food service business, one thing led to another, we talked about being active into life, – he shared a story of someone asking him, was he too old to be handling horses, another one of his activities, – the guy said, it’s like this man, he quoted from Satchel Paige, a famous baseball pitcher, it goes like this, – “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?”. Keep going, stay young, stay healthy, fit. Take care. Have much Peace, Joy, Energy, Positive Energy, Power, Strength, Momentum, Success, Abundance, Prosperity. I could go on and on about Electric Connection, Upon The Wings, Computer Incantations For World Peace, Individual Choice and on and on through Atacama. Peace! I could go on and on, but I gotta get back to my Life Enigmas. So, – Thanks again! And Shanti, Shanti! “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?”.

  • Sounds To New Equipment!

    Mike D.

Hello There Jean Luc, How’s it going? Only have but a plethora of questions and thoughts to share. So I’ll keep it to a few. Saw the message posted about the sounds transferred to a new piece of equipment. Very cool. Hope you get here to the U.S. Chicago area so that we can get a chance to hear and experience you, it, and the JLP Band. Some other songs of the past also?, – The Gardens Of Babylon, anything from Upon The Wings Of Music, As, – just to mention a few. Ever consider playing anything from Electric Connection? Some great songs on that album. Take care. Godspeed! From Huntley, IL, outside of Chicago, USA.

I have just watched various clips from a JLP Montreal Jazz festival in 1982 on youtube. I am confused. As I do not see such a dvd available, what kind of production was that, and how could it get posted on youtube by someone from Korea? Was it an old television special of some kind in Canada? I am curious why more video/dvd material has not been made available by JLP productions down through the years.

  • keyboards in 1978

John: I had two Yamaha keyboards when I recorded Cosmic Messenger in 1978, one was an organ, YC 20 or 30, for the sustain chords, and Yamaha's first electric piano, CP 30, for the arpeggios. That stereo electric piano was cool because you could detune each side a bit to accentuate the stereo effect. Both keyboards eventually stopped working after several years on the road, but you can emulate these sounds with synthesizers and samples.

One of my absolute favorite keyboard sounds is the one used on Cosmic Messenger. I have been trying to emulate it, but to no avail. What in the world is the keyboard that is used?

  • drummer

    michael/JLP Productions

Hi John D, you are right, Damien Schmitt was the drummer in Zacatecas, Mexico, in fact he did all the concerts in March as well. It was planned that he would do all the dates till April, because he is also working as a record producer and has some projects that will keep him off the road and busy for quite a while. So from now on Pierre-François Dufour will replace him, after doing that one show in Bologna, Italy in February as a test. JLP, William and Guy were unanimously impressed by Pierre-François and JLP decided that he will be the new regular drummer.

  • Drummers by continent?

    John D

I was just watching a video on youtube of the recent Zacatecas, Mexico concert. While the video quality was mediocre, I could swear that the drummer was Damien Schmitt. With that, plus the same list of musicians on this website, it has me wondering: is Jean Luc utilizing two different drummers-one for European concerts and one for North/South America concerts?
