http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/region_pasco/odessa/Violinist-loses-shoulder-to-cancer,-keeps-on-playing Here is a story of a young man who had a form of bone cancer. The article implies that the young man (Joe Ginem) lost his shoulder due to cancer, but later goes on to say that the shoulder was reconstructed. Throughout the article, and throughout his treatment, Joe has insisted that his treatment focus on one thing-that he be able to continue to play the violin. As Joe put it: ""My surgeon gave me the option of being able to make daily tasks easier or being able to play the violin better and I chose the musician route," said Ginem.". The article closes by saying "Joe's cancer is remission. When he plays the violin there is pain, but he said nothing like the pain that would come without his music.". The video of this young man playing is wonderful. And his passion for the violin sounds a lot like the person whose music brings us together...Jean Luc Ponty. Best wishes to all of you who observe the U.S. tradition of Thanksgiving...indeed, best wishes to all of JLP's fans around the world.

Hi Jean-Luc, I admire your work since early 80s. I attended your first show in Rio in midlle 80s at the Municipal Theater. In that show you focused on your albun Fables. I will never forget it. I named my last son, Lucas, as a tribute to you. Regards

  • 60s recording

    Jean-Luc

Hi Bill D, all the albums that I recorded from the 60s to the late 90s are owned by record labels which can decide to keep distributing them or to delete them from their catalogs, nothing I can do about it. This is why my management and I decided to change that situation by directly producing and owning my recordings since 2000. Anyway there are quite a few of my 60s and 70s albums still available out there, reissued on CD and you can find them online, in the U.S. and other countries. As for doing a new mainstream jazz project, perhaps one day, why not, style and sales potential have never been my primary motivation, I just do what appeals to me most. And by the way I understand what you mean by 'when you were a jazz violinist', it implies that I was playing mainstream jazz as opposed to jazz-rock now called jazz fusion, however I am still considered a 'jazz violinist' by most, it's just that my style has evolved since the 60s......the world around me as well.....!

Will you ever issue some of your early jazz recordings? Like the 60's and 70's material? There must be some old material from back when you were a jazz violinist. I know there's no money in real jazz so I don;t expect to hear it live but reissues may be possible? Merci.
